Frequently Asked Questions
May I bring my dog on the boat and to the Island? Yes, Mackinac Island is pet friendly as are all ferry boats, though there is a leash law so please keep your dog on a leash. Also, some dogs are uneasy on the boat but most get used to it within minutes. Others simply look for a place to sit and snuggle up to you. The boat ride is short and within minutes of disembarking finds your dog back to normal.
Where can I stay with my dog? There are three places,
Harbor Place Studio Suites downtown,
Mission Point Resort just outside of town and
Sunset Condos up Island. Many of the weekly and monthly home rentals permit dogs as well. The best place to check is on the
Mackinac Island website.
Where can I eat with my dog? The following restaurants are pet friendly: Mary's Bistro, The Greens at Mission Point, Grand Stand at Jockey Club, Gate House, Mr. B's, Chillin & Grillin Waterfront Cafe, Carriage House Verandah at Hotel Iroqouis on the Beach,
Tea Room at Fort Mackinac and JL Beanery. Many offer ice water and biscuits for your dog.
Doud's Market does carry dog food and bottled water.
Which attractions are dog friendly? Mackinac Island Carriage Tours permits horse friendly dogs on the tours of the Island. If you have a lap dog, there is no fee though if your dog requires a seat, then they ask for a child's fare.
Fort Mackinac is pet friendly and of course
Mackinac Island State Park is just waiting for dogs and their companions.
Jack's Livery's Drive your own Buggy is okay for dogs but they really have to be well behaved, (not a barker) and horse friendly.
